Belphegor is surely one of the best death/black metal bands from Europe, that after ten years spreading blasphemy and hate toward the crucified nazarene, have decided to celebrate this recurrence by publishing a great live album / celebration of the band, containing eight live tracks, some studio and rare ones and two bonus videoclips. I contacted the singer and leader of the band, Helmut, and tortured him for times for getting this interview. At the end, here's the talk we had by mail. I'd like to thank him for giving Infernal Fields his time, in spite of this hard period of recording and rehearsing for upcoming tours. Stop here and let him talk...

Ok Helmut, I'm glad to talk to you, how's going on in Belphegor horde?

Everything's fine man, thanx. We are working on the new trax for the next opus, out in May '03, and rehears for the upcoming four shows with Deicide and our eight dates "INFERNAL LIVE ORGASM HEADLINERTOUR" in the end of December '02. For more infos about the shows and so on, visit www.belphegor.at .
So expect yet another monumental highlight in the death/black genre…

Are you satisfied of the final result of "Infernal Live Orgasm"? Personally I think it's a really good live album, and represents so much my personal idea of a Belphegor live show, in fact that I have never seen you playing live….

"Infernal Live Orgasm" is not only a live album to us, on the contrary, the whole album is a travel throughout the groups' first decade with twelve tunes (eight live), two videoclips and a 24-paged hellbooklet. A cool album for the Belphegor die hard supporters, it means a 20-inch sceptre in the ass of every censorship/christian rat. And yezzz, we are very satisfied of the whole album, proud as fuck.

Besides the comprehensive quality of this live, I know that a point in favour to it are the two videos contained in the Cd, one taken from a live performance and the other in the form of a video-clip. Can you describe us them and their meaning? I'm referring to the "Vomit Upon the Cross" video, most of all…

Their meaning… fukk man, that is just another "value for money" present for the maniacs, no rip offs here. "Purity through Fire" has a very shitty sound and shows the band drunken on the stage, for all the freaks that hadn't the chance to see us live on the stage…
"Vomit upon the Cross" is a -low budget- blasphemic underground orgy, filmed/edited by ourselves not for the MTV generation. A real tough hellmass in the house of dogs… we got some troubles with some fuck people there, haha!

I have appreciated even the internal booklet of the album, which I must say contains many good photos of nice cunts having fun with the crucified one… Eheheheh, it's the kind of way of deal with women that you have in your mind?

Sometimes! Be not astonished, but we are not sexists, we dig vaginas and girls in general. A body of a shapely, shaved woman is one of the best things that life can offer a man… in my opinion!

Personally, I can only say I agree with you… I think anybody would like so much to have some good times with such as girls… But, ok, let's talk about more serious topics and let me ask you how much is important for you this kind of image in you music; I mean cunts, goats, blood, inverted cross and so on, with other nice things… It's just a "theatrical" choose or, in some ways, it reflects your way of life?

There are so much false rumours about Belphegor around, but the most are nothing more than childish lies, spreaded by a punch of fig wankers. We are sick metal heads who live for their music… love it or leave it, we are not here to please everybody. Music has absolutely priority in the Belphegor camp, there's no need to talk shit about us…

I don't give a shit about these rumours… I have always liked the music of Belphegor: personally I consider it a perfect mixture of great brutality taken from death metal and obscure, evil and blasphemous attitude that everyone can find only in true Black Metal hordes. Do you agree?

Yeah, sure! Since '91 we improved our hyperblast death/black art from release to release, and spread our plague upon the underworld. Our intention for every hymn is to create the most powerful mighty sound possible. The unique symbiosis of both raging death and aggressive black metal explosions is what makes our music absolutely outstanding, really worth to check it out. You can't hear such a perfect mixture on any other release, in this high speed genre… trust me on this ha!!

I know you are working to a new album, and I hope it will be even more blasphemous and brutal than the other good ones!! Or maybe you are going to become a nice romantic goth band… (argh!)

Romantic goth… wuargh must spit on the carpet!!!
Hell yeah, we will enter the studio in January '03 for our next masterpiece! Incubus/succubus can expect the most heavy and varied output ever, with all the Belphegor trademarks, just on a new supreme level with more demonic guitar leads than ever and a blasting drum inferno!!! This infernal release will spread the most staccato erection worldwide. Release date is set to May '03 - be prepared, hell awaits!!

I have noticed than, after the great "Blutsabbath" album, the one that most of all had a Black Metal influence (in my opinion), the sound of the band has become more brutal than before with the "Necrodaimon TerrorSathan" one: listening to the song "Der Untergang Part II ", one of the bonus in the live album, I can hear a little turning back to more Black Metal sound (in the way Belphegor have always had this kind of influence); can you explain if my opinion it's correct? How will be the future Belphegor sound?

Sorry slutsodomizer from hell, don't agree with you, we have always had this kinda mixture, performed in the typical Belphegor style as I've already mentioned above… so, hmmmm, fukk you haha!!!

What are the bands that have influenced you to create this band and its music, and what is the music you like to listen in your free time?

            Too much to mention here!!

It's natural for everyone that listens to bands such as Belphegor, to ask himself how much of all this blasphemous contents are true to their attitude, and how much are just related to the musical genre played… As I have the opportunity to talk directly to you, this is my question: are Belphegor really such hateful against the religion or is more a topic that mixes perfectly with the music played?

My answer on this question seems to be simple, but nothing is as easy as it looks:
"Don't let them break your will!!"

Can you explain us your point of view about life, death, god, Satan, and other topics that concern the spiritual life and ideology of every human on this planet? What's your "philosophy"?

We are not slaves of any kneeling-crawling-praying religion or sect.
Any dogma, which seeks to impose itself against the freedom of the individual, is an enemy; that makes us enemies to the cross!!

Ok, we have talked at the beginning about your live performances, and for me comes naturally to ask you, being a fan of Belphegor and having liked so much "Infernal Live Orgasm", if you can confirm your presence in Italy at the end of November, in support of Deicide. Maybe this could be the occasion to finally see you playing live…

Thanx for your appreciation man, it's an honour for us to hear that from you.
Damn right, we lay the stages in flames, but only in Milano / Budapest / Slo Kranj / Austria (unfortunately not in Florence…) as support for Deicide!
You can expect the most extreme sound collages possible, ultra hellblast artillery, the way it was meant to be.

We have reached the last question: having talked about religion before, I'd like to know you opinion about extremism and terrorist acts concerned to religion that, especially since the last year, are proliferating in each corner of the world: besides all the complex histories of oppression and the political interests beyond most of this acts and the consequent reprisals (I'm referring to Israel and the USA), what do you think about them? Are they just the consequence of the "close-mind" of religious people or what?

No comment on that shit, just nuke the whole planet!!

Right, this is the end Helmut, thank you so much for giving us your time, end as you want, or add something that you think I missed.

Thanx for the space man, and sorry for the long delay, but we are musicians, not damn authors as 'u know… Every darkest being who dies for obscure energy creations, should check out Belphegor; see you out there on the road to hell… united in blasphemy - bomb the vatican!!

Well, if you bring with you all the necessary... Hail Helmut, and see you soon on stage!!
