From Brescia (Italy) comes Exsecratum, that, in spite of their young age, have already clear in their mind what kind of music they want to play: Primordial Black Metal! I admit that I was curious to listen to them, and after doing that I must say that I was surprised to ear a band from my country playing raw and primordial music like was once in the veins of the Scandinavian groups, most of all now plays "pop" extreme metal.
I contacted my friend and comrade Lord Azazel (bass / vocals), and here's our talk...

Heils Lord Azazel!
You have just realised a demo with Exsecratum, intitled "Aditus", would you like to talk about it?

Ok…after many years of hard work in studio we have managed to produce this Mcd "debut", composed of five pieces of pure, nordic and primordial Black Metal… surely we've nothing to complain about it, we're receiving good responses from Italian and foreign 'zines, from various distros and radios, and from good labels too…now let's see what awaits us!

Why did you decided to use a monicker and a title for the demo in Latin?

We were looking for a simple name, something with a good and mysterious sound. The choose of Latin seemed to us the most advisable, consequently Exsecratum resulted an excellent idea.

Why do you consider yourself "damned" (the translation of Exsecratum ndA)?

We aren't damned; that refers to our music and our lyrics…

In your lyrics, mostly written by yourself, appears continuously the word "north"; now, do you consider your northern Italian roots as important for you, or the "north" represents mostly a point of reference to some ambient characteristics that you think influence deeply your way of being?

Amok and me have a maniacal attraction to mountains, and consequently the North of our country. We spend all our free time in that places, inspired by everything which happens in that obscure nature, consequently all the references to the North of our lyrics became reality into the mind of the listener…

Therefore, the cover image and all the artwork (very nice) should be explained as a tribute to your country? Who realised it?

Surely it's a tribute to my home country, but I prefer to consider it a tribute to our home country! (I absolutely agree!)
Thank you for your compliments, the artwork has been totally realised by myself except for the photos, which were taken by Amok.

Is there a "nationalistic" ideal behind this (nationalistic in the sense of pride of one's own country, and not exclusively in the sense of political ideology)?

We are most of all proud of the places in the north of our country, places we don't envy to any other.

Black metal has always been associated to an antichristian ideology, what's your position with this topic? And what's your opinion about politics into music?

I have nothing to say about antichristian ideology, 'cause we don't write lyrics about it...about politics, I think it isn't used intelligently most of the time into music…the musical genre that I connect mostly with politics is surely industrial-noise and something of electronic.

What inspires you? How do you create a song? What do you create first, music or lyrics?

My songs are inspired by my North: mountains, landscapes and lonely forests…they born from strictly personal sensations, things and images that impend over my mind…usually I create music first, then I write the most appropriate lyrics to match it.

What are your musical influences in this project?

Surely, first Immortal albums, Darkthrone, Burzum, and something of Emperor and Satyricon.

How do you define your genre?

            Nordic Black Metal!

Have you got some projects for the future?

Surely…too many to tell you now…

Are you planning some live dates or do you think that for a Black Metal band is useless and harmful to play live gigs, as many other bands think? (And you think that's enough to be considered "true"? sic !! ndA)

Yes, we're preparing ourselves so much for live dates…I don't consider live shows "useless and harmful" into Black Metal…yes, you know, you lose a bit of mystery, but that's not enough to stop our will to kick some ass…

I red on your website that you had some line-up problems, can you tell us? What has caused the departure of your guitarist Holocaust? Have you find a substitute?

Yes, it's true, we had the departure of Holocaust and then Hertier (the new official guitarist) arrived. I think that's enough.

The last question…you call yourselves "primordial" Black Metal; now, do you think that the primordial meaning of Black Metal (I mean brutal music, extreme way of thinking and so on) is still alive?

Of course!…have you got a proof, haven't you?

Ok, thank you for your time and, giving you my best wishes, I give you the opportunity to end as you want…

Thank you Abisem…see you soon! Stay Primordial!

What's more? Support Exsecratum for their pure attitude and their good Primordial Black Metal. Northern Supremacy !!
